The purpose of the special education strand is to build the national knowledge base in areas related to effective and efficient delivery of instructional services to students with disabilities. With a particular emphasis on literacy and math at the elementary and middle school levels, the project will focus on synthesizing, summarizing, and meta-analyzing existing research to create materials for teacher training and professional development, and to provide technical support to the 16 Regional Comprehensive Centers to ensure that all students receive appropriate instruction.
